# Copyright & Scripture Permissions

This site quotes Scripture from several translations, and draws on lexicons, commentaries and
linguistic datasets. The notices below are the ones those publishers require, gathered in one place.
Individual studies also name the translation at each quotation.

## Original-language and linguistic data

**MACULA Greek and Hebrew Linguistic Datasets** © Biblica, Inc., licensed CC BY 4.0 — the source of
the morphology, lemma, Strong's number, semantic-domain, syntax and coreference data behind the word
studies on this site. Louw-Nida semantic-domain data within those datasets originates with the UBS
MARBLE project and is used by permission granted to Clear Bible.

## Rabbinic and Second Temple texts

**The William Davidson Talmud** — the English translation of the Babylonian Talmud by Rabbi Adin
Even-Israel Steinsaltz, © Koren Publishers Jerusalem Ltd., made available by
[Sefaria](https://www.sefaria.org) under
[CC BY-NC 4.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/). Quoted here in brief, with
attribution, on a non-commercial site. Tractates cited by daf (e.g. b. *Sanhedrin* 97a).

**The Book of Jubilees, 1 Enoch and 2 Enoch** — quoted from R. H. Charles's 1913 translation, public
domain by age, via the open-licensed
[scrollmapper](https://github.com/scrollmapper/bible_databases_deuterocanonical) corpus.

**The Ante-Nicene Fathers** (Roberts & Donaldson, eds.; Coxe's American edition) and the *Nicene and
Post-Nicene Fathers* (Schaff, ed.) — public domain by age, from [CCEL](https://ccel.org). Patristic
quotations are cited by work and section.

These texts are quoted as historical evidence of what their authors believed. They are not Scripture
and carry no authority here; see any study that cites them for the caution stated in full.

## Commentaries and reference works

Where a study draws on a copyrighted commentary, study Bible, lexicon or dictionary — the *ESV Study
Bible*, the *NIV* and *NKJV Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible*, the *NIV Biblical Theology Study
Bible*, the *CSB Ancient Faith Study Bible*, the *NLT Life Application Study Bible*, the *NLT
Christian Basics Bible*, the *Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament*, *The Bible Knowledge
Commentary*, or a
named monograph — the work is credited in that study's own **References & Recommended Reading**
section. Such material is used only in brief, attributed quotation or synthesized into original
prose. The notes, articles, charts and introductions in those editions are separately copyrighted
from the Bible text they accompany, and no part of them is reproduced here at length.

## Public-domain charts

Several studies reproduce charts by **Clarence Larkin** (1850-1924) from *Dispensational Truth, or
God's Plan and Purpose in the Ages* (1918; expanded edition 1920) and *Rightly Dividing the Word*.
These are in the public domain: the works were published well before 1929, and their author died in
1924. The charts carry Larkin's own "Copyrighted" mark, which is a notice of a term that has since
expired, not a live claim. They are self-hosted here rather than hotlinked, and each is captioned
with its title and Larkin's name where it appears.

Reproducing a chart is not endorsement of everything it asserts; where a study uses one, it says in
its own prose which parts of the chart it holds and which it does not.

If you believe anything on this site exceeds fair use or a publisher's stated permission, please

## This site's own writing

Everything above is what this site borrows. This section is what it grants.

The studies, commentaries, sermons and other prose written for this site are licensed under
[Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)
(CC BY 4.0). You may share and adapt them for any purpose, including commercially, provided you give
credit, link to the licence, and indicate if changes were made. Preferred attribution:

> David Ingot, *The Way* — https://the-way.lewy.au

The requirement to indicate changes is the one that matters here. These are personal study notes,
published so that they can be tested rather than taken on trust; if you alter one, say so, so that
your edit is not read as something this site stands behind.

That licence covers the original writing and nothing else. Quoted Scripture, the lexicons and
commentaries listed above, and the linguistic datasets each remain under their own terms, as does
every source catalogued in
[references/README.md](https://github.com/ding0t/bible_studies/blob/main/references/README.md). The
site's code — the tools, the build scripts and the query layer — is separately licensed under the
MIT Licence.
