# Memory Verse Cards

**In one sentence:** print this page on A4, cut along the dashed lines, and carry eight verses in
the words God first gave them, with the English beside them.

> ✝️ Psalm 119:11 (ESV)
> I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

The verb is <span dir="rtl">צָפַנְתִּי</span> (*tsafanti*, H6845), from the root used of Moses'
mother hiding her son for three months in Exodus 2:2: something hidden away because it is
treasured and must be kept safe. God gave His word to be kept that way, close enough to reach for
when you are tempted, and so you may carry it with you.

## How to print

1. Choose **Cards** for one-sided cards with everything on one face, or **Flashcards** for a
prompt on the front and the verse on the back.
2. Print at **A4, 100 % / actual size**, with **margins set to none** and **headers and footers
   off**. Turn **background graphics** on.
3. For flashcards, print **double-sided, flip on long edge**. The backs are mirrored so each lands
   behind its own front.
4. Cut on the dashed lines. The tick marks in the margin line up a guillotine with each cut.

Each card is 95 × 67.5 mm, eight to a sheet. Empty places on the last sheet print as blank ruled
cards for a verse of your own.

## Reading a card

- **Original words** run in their own direction: Hebrew right to left, Greek left to right.
- **Transliteration** sits under each word, split into syllables, with the stressed syllable
  underlined: *be·re·<u>shit</u>*.
- **Gloss** under that is a word-for-word aid, not a translation. The ESV and the WEB below it are.
- Where the ESV and WEB read identically, the card prints the verse once and names both.

## Learning a verse

The flashcard front gives the reference, the first original word and the **first letter of each
English word**: *I t b, G c t h a t e.* Recite from those letters, then turn the card over to
check. Each correct recitation earns a tick in one of the circles beneath, at **1, 2, 4, 7, 14 and
30 days** after you learn it. Widening gaps like these are what move a verse from short-term
recall into long-term memory.
