# Recommended Bible Resources

Sites, tools and channels I use alongside these studies. Test them the same way you test these
notes, against Scripture (Acts 17:11).

- :material-frequently-asked-questions:{ .lg .middle } __Got Questions__

    ---

Little snippets of well-structured expositional answers. Type a question the way you would ask
it ("Who were the Nephilim?", "What is propitiation?") and you get a short, Scripture-referenced
answer from a conservative evangelical, nondenominational ministry running since 2002. It is the
quickest way to get oriented on a topic before going deeper, and each answer points to the
passages that matter, which are the passages to read next.

Free online bible study tooling. Its interlinear lines up every word of the Hebrew and Greek with
its Strong's number, lexicon entry and every other place it occurs, across dozens of English
translations, with classic commentaries alongside. It is what lets a reader without the
    original languages do a word study. This site's own pop-ups show a verse and its word in place;
Blue Letter Bible is where to follow a word all the way through.

Excellent studies based in biblical and extra-biblical texts. Ken Johnson's ministry works from
the ancient sources themselves: the church fathers, the Dead Sea Scrolls and other early
documents, to show how the earliest believers read Scripture. It carries live-streamed teaching,
prophecy charts and study files. Read it for the ancient witness on a question, and check what
you find there against the primary text, as with any source.

Joel Kramer, an archaeologist with a master's in biblical archaeology who has excavated in
Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Ai, takes you to the biblical sites on location and shows the
evidence in the ground. His book *Where God Came Down* works through ten of them. Seeing the
place makes the text concrete: the distances, the terrain and the layers of a dig show why a
passage reads the way it does, and they show the Bible's history standing up to the spade.

Free Bibles in many languages and formats; also the source behind several translations this
site's own tools query directly. Its texts are public domain or openly licensed, so they can be
downloaded, printed, quoted at length and shared without permission. That includes the World
English Bible this site's pop-ups show and the Greek Septuagint its tools search. It is the place to get
Scripture for a language, a device or a project of your own.

## Other statements of faith

Statements I read alongside writing [my own](https://the-way.lewy.au/about/statement-of-faith/). They differ most on
the end times, which makes them useful to compare.

- [Calvary Chapel Association](https://calvarycca.org/statement-of-faith/): the Calvary Chapel
movement's statement, which holds a pre-tribulation rapture and a millennial kingdom.
- [Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour](https://www.ccsh.com.au/statement-of-faith/): a Calvary Chapel
church in Western Australia; pre-tribulation rapture and a pre-millennial return.
- [Desiring God, Affirmation of Faith](https://www.desiringgod.org/affirmation-of-faith#0.1_1): John
Piper's ministry. A detailed Reformed Baptist statement.
- [Aleph with Beth](https://freehebrew.online/statement-of-faith/): the statement of the free Hebrew
course this site recommends ([Aleph with Beth](https://the-way.lewy.au/hebrew/aleph-with-beth/)). It describes Christ's return
without naming a rapture or millennium.

## Behind these studies

The texts, lexicons and commentaries every study here is checked against.

- :material-database:{ .lg .middle } __Our Data Sources__

    ---

What Bible text, lexical and commentary data backs this site, organized by licence tier, and
what each tier is used for.

- :material-database-search:{ .lg .middle } __Public Data Sources__

    ---

A survey of the open Bible data that exists: texts, manuscripts, lexicons, cross-references
and alignment, how each is licensed, and which ones this site uses.
