שָׁבֻעִים שִׁבְעִים
Although the Hebrew appears to say seventy seventy at a quick glance. It is two different words.
- šiḇʿîm Seventy
- translated as 'seventy' 58 times, 'three score and x' 33 times
- šāḇûaʿ sevens or weeks
- translated 19 times as 'week', 1 time as 'seven'
In this case of prophecy, a week is a week of years, or seven years. So the prophecy refers to 70 lots of seven years.
The fulfillment
What is most interesting about this prophecy is the very specific fulfillment of the first 69 weeks. Specifically, where the triumphant entry of Jesus is the exact day prophesied by ✝️ Dan 9:26 (ESV) !
